KANGEIKO 2025
The usual New Year’s Eve event for all Kyokushin practitioners and members of OIKK International will take place at the Ecoresort “Le Sirenè” in Gallipoli. Start time: 8:30 am
Kangeiko (寒稽古, cold practice) is a term used to describe training that takes place during the coldest period of the year, in the depths of winter. In the tradition of many martial arts, including Kyokushin, starting the new year with Kangeiko is a demonstration of commitment and determination, a declaration of intent to maintain a high level of dedication throughout the new year. It emphasizes the importance of persevering in training with iron discipline even in adverse conditions, always striving to express oneself to the fullest of one’s abilities.
The purpose of Kangeiko, however, is not only to temper the body by subjecting it to extreme conditions, but above all to strengthen the mind and spirit, seeking within oneself the motivation and energy to overcome one’s limits and face difficulties, in martial arts as well as in everyday life.
Sayings of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama
“Undergoing vigorous training serves more to forge a resolute spirit capable of defeating oneself than to develop a strong body.”
“If we don’t overcome our tendency to give up easily, our lives will amount to nothing.”
